Craft a Powerful Letter of Support

I am writing to emphasize the vital role of the P3 indoor facility at Pier 40 in supporting youth sports, particularly baseball and softball. Its closure would create a significant gap in year-round training opportunities for young athletes in Manhattan.

Many families face financial barriers to youth sports, especially in a city where the high cost of living makes extracurricular activities difficult to afford. For many young athletes, access to winter workouts and training at P3 has been instrumental in their development, providing a space to improve their skills, build confidence, and learn the value of hard work—lessons that extend far beyond sports.

With limited field space in lower Manhattan, P3 is essential in ensuring equitable access to training opportunities for players of all skill levels. In an era where early sport specialization is increasingly common, having an affordable and accessible facility like P3 is more important than ever.

I urge you to prioritize the continued operation of P3 to ensure that young athletes can keep striving to reach their full potential.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Good afternoon,

I’m reaching out because I recently learned that P3 is at risk of eviction, and I’m hoping to garner support to help keep their lease intact.

If P3 is evicted from its space at Pier 40, it will be a significant loss not only for individual families but also for the community at large. P3 has been a valuable resource for young players who may not be involved in high-pressure or expensive travel leagues. It provides an affordable, accessible space for children to develop their skills and love for the game without the financial burden that comes with other options.

For many young athletes, P3 has been a place of growth and encouragement. Coaches have stepped in when players were considering quitting, offering support and helping them to continue pursuing their interests. Many children spend countless hours at P3, attending clinics, working out, socializing with peers, and even volunteering to help younger players. This facility has become a hub for personal and athletic development.

Beyond just baseball, P3 has been a critical space for fostering connections and a sense of belonging, especially for those who have faced challenges such as academic struggles or social isolation. The supportive environment has allowed children to not only grow as athletes but also as individuals, teaching them the value of hard work, perseverance, and community. The relationships formed at P3 often extend beyond the field and provide lasting friendships for young people from diverse backgrounds.

Additionally, P3 plays a crucial role in local youth sports programs, such as the local little league (GVLL). Without P3’s facilities and coaching staff, the league would be unable to offer the same level of training and opportunities. The cost of youth sports can be a barrier for many families, and P3 helps to alleviate that by providing affordable coaching, clinics, and practice time. This partnership has made it possible for young athletes to practice multiple times a week, which would not be feasible for many families without this support.

P3 is a cornerstone of the community, and its closure would create a void that would be difficult to fill. With continued support, however, it is possible to keep this vital space open. P3 is more than just a facility—it is where kids thrive, coaches make lasting impacts, and a love for the game is nurtured in a truly special way.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Best regards,
